Syngenta Canada expands support of Canadian turf students Turf Bowl ambitions

Syngenta Canada is pleased to continue its support for the University of Guelph Turf team, who is traveling to San Diego, California this year for the 22nd annual Turf Bowl.

Syngenta has been a long-time sponsor of the team, who will compete in the written exam on the agronomic, financial and business management aspects of the Golf Course Superintendent profession.

In addition, a new team has been formed by the turf program at Olds College in Alberta. This team will compete at the Turf Bowl for the first time this year, with financial support from Syngenta.

The competition is held in conjunction with the Golf Industry Show, the annual conference and trade show of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).

“Competing in the Turf Bowl is an excellent experience for these students. It is an opportunity to work as a team to apply what you have learned while doing some more complex problem solving. We are pleased to be able to support Canada’s Turf Bowl teams," says David Kuypers, CGCS, Turf Specialist with Syngenta and an instructor in the turf program at the University of Guelph. The sponsorship will help cover the teams’ travel, lodging, and registration expenses.

This is the first year that Olds College, located in Olds, Alberta, will be fielding a Turf Bowl team. “This was amazing news to the faculty and students of the Olds College Turf program. We were blown away by the overwhelming generosity of Syngenta Canada towards our inaugural Turf Bowl efforts," Shared Jason Pick, an instructor in the Olds College turf program and the team’s advisor.

The University of Guelph Turf program has competed in the competition many times in the past two decades. Steven Rabski, co-President of the University of Guelph Turf Club, is part of the group leading this year’s team. “We are fortunate to be able to compete in this competition, it is a great experience to compete and build a professional network. We are thankful for the continuing support that Syngenta has provided for this event and of the University of Guelph Turf program as a whole," he says.

Syngenta Canada is pleased to continue to support the future of the Canadian turf industry through the support of Canada’s Turf students and their Turf Bowl ambitions as part of Syngenta Canada’s efforts to grow golf through science and education.
